The Backbone of Law Enforcement: The National Police Defense Foundation
Since its inception in 1995, the NPDF has been a cornerstone in upholding the rights and welfare of law enforcement officials. Born from a need to counter increased attacks and false misconduct allegations against dedicated law enforcement officers, the NPDF has grown to provide vital services and resources to this community.
With its impressive growth, the NPDF now boasts over 210,000 members and supporters nationwide, extending its reach internationally across Asia, Europe, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
Unique in its approach, the NPDF offers membership to civilians and professionals alike, fostering a solid bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Its guiding mission is to “Protect & Support” the interests of law enforcement officers, defending those unjustly accused or prosecuted and establishing legal defense funds, where 100% of tax-deductible donations support the officer’s defense.
Nationally recognized for providing free medical and psychological services to officers disabled in the line of duty, the NPDF steps in to establish medical funds to alleviate outstanding medical debt. In response to the rise of police suicides and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD), they have partnered with the “COP 2 COP” program to offer confidential counseling to active and retired officers, available 24/7.
Honoring the Deserving: The 2023 NPDF Award Recipients
The 2023 NPDF Awards Dinner shone a light on an array of distinguished individuals who have excelled in their roles and contributed significantly to law enforcement. The event honored Mick McHale, National President of the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), with the Person of the Year Award.
Next, the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Special Agent in Charge Ricky Patel of the U.S. Department of Homeland Investigations, Newark Office, acknowledging his years of diligent service. Dr. Robert Ghalili, the NPDF Surgeon, received the Distinguished Member Award for his exceptional contributions to the organization.
A noteworthy mention was our industry partner, Joni Capobianco, CEO of AMG Demolition, who was recognized as Businessperson of the Year. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to the industry have been truly transformative. The Media in Excellence Award went to The Blue Magazine/Moment of Silence for their responsible and impactful journalism in law enforcement matters.
The Valor Award was presented to Agent Jacob Albarado from the U.S. Border Patrol, whose bravery and commitment to duty continue to inspire us all.
