About Shoring
There are many situations in which shoring can come useful. There are three common types of shoring system: flying shoring, raking shoring, and dead shoring.
Flying Shoring
A flying shoring system is used when an adjacent building needs to be pulled down and reconstructed. There are many support arrangements that are categorized as a flying shoring system, but they all involve not having the shores reach the ground. Flying shoring consists of inclined struts, horizontal struts, cleats, needles, and wall plates. These elements can be arranged differently depending on the situation.
Raking Shoring
A raking shoring system uses rakers to provide walls with lateral supports. It consists of a sole plate, rakers, bracing, wall plate, cleats, and needles. When setting up a raking shoring system, it is important to note that the rakers need to be inclined at an angle of 45 to 75 degrees in the ground. By using a rider raker, the length of rakers can be decreased when using them for tall buildings. Make sure that the rakers are braced properly at intervals.
Dead Shoring
A dead shoring system is used to provide support to floors, roofs, and walls when the lower portion of a wall is removed. A dead shoring system consists of posts and beams which are arranged to provide support to a heavy structure above and transfer the weight to the ground below with a steady foundation. To give workers space to work, dead shores should be at a distance away from the wall when the props and the needle are in place. Before dismantling the dead shoring system, ensure that all openings, such as windows and doors, are well strutted.
